Luís de Camões, poète portugais du XIVe siècle, a écrit un poème qui illustre l’amour romantique. Dans ce poème, Camões introduit la facette réelle de l’amour : l’amour comme feu ardent, l’amour comme insatisfaction, l’amour et sa solitude. La question de l’amitié à la fin du poème se démarque de cette idée de non-rencontre amoureuse, du désir insatisfait.
