Un rhinocéros ? Quel rhinocéros ? Celui qui fait n’importe quoi, que Lacan approuve, ou celui à la carapace protectrice, celui à la défense frontale qui lui donne son nom ?
« Il ne s’agit pas de comprendre ! » : une interprétation reçue en contrôle, alors que je me retrouvais peut-être trop dans un cas. Pourtant je connaissais le repère de Lacan : « ne pas comprendre pour comprendre » [1]. Cette intervention a changé mon rapport à ce que je pensais savoir, pour me renvoyer à l’analyse. Peut-être faut-il rester rhinocéros assez, au sens de Lacan, pour ne pas être conformiste, au sens de la « rhinocérite » de Ionesco ? Ce qui les sépare, tel est l’enjeu : être prêt à la différence, à la surprise – toujours prêt au nouveau.

A rhinoceros? Which rhinoceros? The one that does anything whatever, that Lacan agrees with, or the one with the protective carapace, with the frontal defence that gives it its name?
“It's not about understanding!”, was an interpretation I received in supervision, when I understood a case perhaps a little too much. And yet I knew Lacan's reference point: “not to understand for the sake of understanding” [1]. This intervention changed my relationship with what I thought I knew, sending me back to analysis. Perhaps you must remain rhinoceros enough, in Lacan's sense, in order not to be conformist, in the sense of Ionesco's ‘rhinoceritis’? What separates them, is what is at stake: to be ready for difference, for surprise – always ready for the new.
